Tree Service in Hingham

Big old hardwoods on historic lots, and salt exposure on everything facing the harbour.

Hingham has some of the oldest standing hardwood on the South Shore, including white oaks on house lots that were mature before the properties around them were subdivided. Trees that size fail in sections rather than all at once, which makes the deadwood overhead the thing worth looking at.

The land runs from the harbour up into drumlin country, so within one town you get salt-pruned crowns near the water and sheltered, drawn-up white pine a mile inland. The two fail in completely different ways.

Beech across the region is under pressure from beech leaf disease, which thins the canopy from the interior outward. It is worth identifying early because a declining beech over a structure is a different conversation than a healthy one.
